Thank you for your interest in Rowing at Auckland Grammar School.
Rowing is a highly rewarding and enjoyable sport which has helped to shape many young men during their time at Grammar.
Rowing is one of the pre-eminent sports at the school and has achieved notable success at a national level, with many talented athletes going on to represent New Zealand.
The following information is designed to provide you with an insight into the Auckland Grammar School Learn to Row (LTR) programme.
This is a seven-month course designed to work alongside your boy's other sporting commitments, cater for all levels of ability and teach your son the fundamentals of rowing.
We welcome boys of all year levels between Form 3 and Form 6. It doesn't matter how big or strong you are, you just need to have a good attitude and be excited by the idea of striving towards a national title in your first year of this enriching sport.
While regular training produces the best and quickest results, we understand many boys will have other commitments so attendance at every one of these sessions is not compulsory - if you need to miss a session, that's fine!
Land training sessions will be held at school at 7:30am, in the Grammar Erg Room (upstairs in the Old Gym). Participants will need to wear PE kit, and bring a water bottle and a small snack to eat afterwards.
On-water sessions will be held on selected Sundays at the Auckland Grammar Rowing Club (AGRC) at 22 Armein Rd, Panmure. Please follow this link to register your son for a training session and for further details. Spaces are limited for safety reasons. We would like to see your son attend training at least twice a week (once on land, and once on water) when possible.
Trials will be held mid August. Thereafter, an announcement about selections will be made, and feedback will be offered to unsuccessful candidates. New rowers will compete for Auckland Grammar School, in their respective age category during the rowing season, which runs from October 2018 to April 2019.
